College Options

COLLEGE PREPARATION, OPTIONS, AND TESTING

Homeschoolers have many post-high school options in today's educational market.  Here are a few of them:

1.  TRADITIONAL COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY:  See:  http://www.hslda.org/ highschool/default.asp
Preparation includes:
a.  Taking college entrance tests:  Given at various test centers.
-PLAN:   which is the practice ACT test, taken in the fall of 
10th Grade
-PSAT/NMSQT:  taken in the fall of 10th Grade for practice of the SAT and for practice for the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
Taken in the fall of 11th Grade to qualify for the scholarship and as practice for the SAT
-SAT:  May be taken in 11th and 12th grade.
-ACT:  May be taken in 11th and 12th grade.  This is the most popular college entrance test in our area.  It is not necessary to take both the ACT and the SAT

2.  DISTANCE LEARNING:  Many Schools offer this.  One of our vendors at the 2008 Conference was Northwestern College of St. Paul, to showcase their distance learning program.  Check individual schools that you are interested in for this option

3.  MILITARY SERVICE:  Yellow pages and Internet offer access to all branches of our military.

4.  T ECHNICAL AND VOCATIONAL SCHOOLS
